Mattie L. Alston

October 15, 1932 — September 17, 2020

Mother Mattie Lee Blackwell Alston, age 87, of 2419 W. Hornes Church Road, Bailey, NC transitioned from labor to reward on Thursday, September 17, 2020. A celebration of her life and legacy will be Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 1 pm at L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle, 1800 Lane Street Extension, Wilson.  Bishop J.N. Perry, Jr. will be the eulogist, and Elder Demaris Stevens will preside.  Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. 

Left to remember her with love are five daughters, Lucretia “Brenda” Perry (Pastor James) of Spring Hope, NC, Bessie Faye Brinkley of Miami, Florida, Dianne Lynch of Rocky Mount, NC, Betsy M. Battle (Tyrone)  and Rosalynd Alston both of Bailey, NC; three sons, Albert Alston, III (Phyllis) of Bailey, NC, Danny Alston (Vickie), and Donnie Alston (Pamela) both of Nashville, NC; three sisters, Cherry Harewood (Arthur) of Long Island, New York, Hilda Carney of Richmond, Va., and Annie S. Hanks of Rocky Mount, NC; two brothers, Albert Crumbley (Felecia) of Sims, NC and Eunice Crumbley of Wilson, NC; two sisters- in-law, Ethel McNeil of Wilson, NC and Maggie Austin of Oxon Hill, MD; 26 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren, her adopted children, Jackie Lynch, Diane Joyner, Jackie Allen, Pate Alston, Billy Kent, and Charles Cooper; and a special friend, Juanita Richardson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

An inspirational wake will be held Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Union View Church, 12167 Old Smithfield Road, Bailey. The family is receiving friends at the residence and will assemble there at 12 noon on Wednesday in preparation for the funeral procession. Please remember the Alston family in your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
