Janie Coretha Terrell Coleman

February 10, 1953 — July 24, 2021

Ms. Janie Coretha Terrell Coleman, age 68, of 1004 Park Ave., Wilson was called to eternal rest on Saturday, July 24, 2021.  Funeral service will be Sunday at 1 pm at New Vester Missionary Baptist Church, 8304 Byrd Road, Sims.  The Rev. Jeffrey Simms will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Coleman Family Cemetery, Wilson.

Janie was born on February 10, 1953, to the late Luther “Coot” Terrell and Edith Mae Barnes Terrell, the eighth child of eleven, in Nash County, NC.  Three sisters, (Frances, Joyce, and Esther) and two brothers (Jimmy and William Earl) preceded her in death.

Usually a very quiet person, she loved music and dancing.  She graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1972.  She later attended Wilson Technical College and became a certified nursing assistant.  She worked as a CNA at Avante Nursing Home.

Janie was married to the late Jimmy “Jock” Coleman and bore three children, one of whom, Terry  “Binky” Coleman, preceded her in death. 

In her later years, Janie enjoyed crossword puzzles, cleaning, and helping out in any way that she could.  She especially loved taking care of her grandchildren.

Janie earned her wings on July 24, 2021, after a lengthy illness.  She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Kelly Coleman of Wilson, NC; her son, Jimmy  “Peppy” Coleman;  two granddaughters, Janasia Nicole and Zyionna Michelle; two grandsons, Jaheim Jamal and Jimmy Lamont; three sisters, Sadie (Paul) Mangum of Robersonville, NC, Rosa (Cecil) Coleman of Sims, NC, and Carolyn Terrell-Alston of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Willie Barnes of  Washington, DC, and Luther “Thad” Terrell of Wilson, NC; three sisters-in-law, Jessie Terrell , Nancy Moore, and Gloria Terrell, all of Wilson, NC; one aunt, Bernice Terrell of  Chesapeake, VA;  and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Bobby Bates who was like a brother to her.
